Epimediums

Distribution  - China,  Guizhou province.

Description –   A small /medium growing evergreen species which is fairly new to cultivation. It has a thin running type rhizome. Having run underground a new plant will arise from a fat little bud at the end of the rhivome. It can eventually form a mat of intertwined rhizomes. The leaves consist of three spiny edged leaflets with acuminate tips. The flower stem bears two opposite leaves. The flower is a strong yellow colour and of a distinct shape due to the recurving inner sepals, which may be seen in the pictures. We planted one fairly established pot plant out in the garden and subsequently it was torn up and ripped to pieces, so cannot say as yet how it will do in the garden
