Epimedium pinnatum subsp. colchicum L321

Distribution  - Azerbaijan and northern Iran

Description –  A medium growing evergreen species with  bright yellow flowers produced on leafless stems and held nicely above the foliage. This species is most commonly found in gardens in the form of its subspecies colchicum, although its other subspecies can be found in a few nurseries. You need to refer to W. Stearn for the subtle differences between the two.

E. pinnatum subs. colchicum is in the parentage of the old hybrids E.x perralchicum and x warleyense and much more recently Julian Sutton’s ‘Totness Turbo’ and ‘Winters End’ (Desirable Plants).
